The list below is our
recommendation for western-style meals during a longer trekking. Shopping is best done in
the basars of Rawalpindi, because there you have the biggest collection of the articles
and you can be sure to get everything. Which is not guaranted when you try to buy in
Chilas or Gilgit. The basic food of course will be available in this cities and in some
villages.
In Rawalpindi we have made
good experience with the local shop of Esajee Sons in the Kashmir road near the Kamran Hotel. One can normally get all the articles in this shop
with reliable quality and fair prices. Only the tinned cheese and corned beef is sometimes
not available there, but you can find it easily in shops nearby or in the basar.
The prices stated below are prices of 1999. At this time the exchange rate for Rupies was
54Rupies per US-Dollar.
