Diama
glacier and ice-fall; the flat meeting-area with Diamir-glacier; start of Diamir-glacier |
The lower part of the
Kinshofer-Route is for a long time a medium-steep icefield-ascent, leading to the
difficultiest part of the whole route: the rock-climbing just above 6,000m. Nowadays this
part of the route is equipped with rope-ladders beside the fixed-rope on most of the
route. This ice-field is a "hiking-route" for local
"heroes", which walk up without crampons - embarrassing the expedtitioneers.
Just with a metal-tube as a local hiking-stick for ice-fields. Why? To collect and sell
abandonned tents, ropes etc., after the expeditions went away, leaving their
"garbage"/material on the mountain.
