Once that the rockclimbing part of the "Kinshofer-Route" is done, the route becomes less steep and the climbing becomes strenous because of altitude and sometimes heavy snowfall.

The pictures below show the critical middle-gap of the "Direct route", a part that was once reached by F. Mummery when he tried in 1895 to climb up "directly". This area was crossed two times by Reinhold Messner when descending in 1970 and 1978.
