Crossing
of the Bazhin-glacier needs sometimes route-finding and bridge-building |
After crossing the glacier, from the
moraine one can look down to the famous Tup-alp (3.550m), a green alpine pasture and some
shepherds summer-settlement. The route follow to the west-side of this Tup-alp where one
reaches the socalled 1st Herrligkoffer-Base-Camp, named after the german mountaineering
organizer. From here it is about one hour flat walk around a morain to another green flat
area, called 2nd Herrligkoffer-Base-Camp below a moraine with a glacier-lake on top
of it. From there it is about 30 minutes along the Rupal river to the Shaigiri-campsite
(3.660m), a green flat pasture. From here one has the best view of the whole southern
Rupal-side of Nanga Parbat. The summit is about 5.84km air-distance away. This place is
worth to spent an acclimatization-restday. Specially in the early morning one has a
fascinating view of the Nanga Parbat - insha allah.
