From the campsite at
Shaigiri it is a four hours walk to the lower Mazeno-basecamp. For the whole time the
donkey-path follows the moraine of the Toshain(Rupal)-Glacier with good views to the
Rupal-Peak or the Leila-Peak. The campsite (4.200m) is a small green area on the moraine
of the glacier, it offers only limited views. Because only one hours more ascending one
finds a nice big green flat-area at about 4.450m which offers much more spectacular views,
it is worth to consider to camp there, at the Mazeno-Pass middle-camp.

From the
middle-campsite one has a direct open view to the summit-region of Nanga Parbat. In the
right picture above, it is the white spot on the right. Specially when you make a short 90
minutes sidetrip ascending to a ridge, one can see the summit-region in a distance of
8.4km - the picture below left was taken from there with a 135mm telephoto-lens.

From the lower Mazeno-base-camp it is about 1 hour to the middle-camp and from there about
3-5 hours steady ascent across gravel on a moraine to the Mazeno-Highcamp (4.770m).
The campsite is inside the moraine - in the picture above marked by a red circle -, a very
small flattend area on the rocks.
